The Tiger Bowl

Every week we’ll be previewing Auburn football’s upcoming opponent. This week, it’s the SEC West rival LSU Tigers.

Ed Orgeron is entering his 6th year as Head Coach in Baton Rouge. Last year was a down year for LSU, finishing 5-5, including their worst loss in program history since 1996 at Auburn. LSU’s offense took a step back from their 2019 National Championship team offense, but still managed respectable numbers, posting 434 yards per game and 32 points per game. Their defense however, was historically rough, returning only 3 starters and giving up 492 yards per game and 35 points per game, both worst in program history. They return 18 starters, 9 on both sides of the ball.

So far this year, LSU is 3-1, with a loss at UCLA. They are 1-0 so far in the conference, with a 28-25 win over Mississippi State coming on September 25th. They are heavily reliant on the passing attack and QB Max Johnson, who is averaging 290 yards per game and has 15 touchdowns. Their rushing attack is much less effective, averaging only 80 yards per game.

Players to watch for:

Wide Receiver Kayshon Boutte- Led LSU with 735 yards in 5 starts as a true freshman last year. Also caught 5 Touchdowns. So far this season, Boutte has caught 24 passes for 309 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Linebacker Damone Clark: Leads LSU with 42 total tackles so far this season, including a sack and three tackles for loss. Clark was a regular contributor for LSU off the bench over the last three seasons, and has stepped into a starting role for the Tigers this year.
