Cam Newton was surprised following his release from the Patriots.
In a statement by Newton, he said he was okay with being the backup if that’s what the Patriots wanted, but believes his presence would have been a distraction.
“Can we be honest? The reason why they released me is because indirectly I was going to be a distraction, without being the starter.” Newton said in a YouTube video on his channel.
