Ashley M. Jones, Alabama’s first black poet laureate, was honored by Gov. Kay Ivey Wednesday in the old House chamber.

Jones has published three collections of her poetry as well as numerous poems, essays and other writings across local and national journals.

She also holds another proud distinction as the youngest poet laureate in state history at the age of 31.
