Each week, I will look at a movie that is currently in theaters or available to stream and give some reasons why people should watch it. This isn’t necessarily a film critique, rather, an overview of what I think is enjoyable about the film, and why it’s worth seeing. This week, I’ll be looking at Scream, the latest entry into the franchise (not the original).
After a hiatus due to holidays and busy times, I’m back with one of my favorite horror series having a sort of rebirth with Scream. I saw Scream opening night as this was the first time I’ve ever seen a Scream movie in the theaters and it exceeded my expectations. Scream has all the elements you’ve loved out of the series, with a few new ideas. It maintains trademarks such as being self-aware, even making fun of some of its own history, while presenting danger to all characters involved as you, the audience, try to figure out who this movie’s Ghostface is. This entry is safe, but I think that is a good thing. There is one scene however, that will stick with you anytime you think of this movie. For the sake of not spoiling, I will go into no further details, but it is something you haven’t seen before in a Scream. All in all, I think this Scream will ultimately rank as second in the series behind the original and be valued as a worthy entry and continuation of the series. Go scream- I mean go see it for yourself.
Scream is now playing at a theater near you.
