Every week, we’ll be previewing Auburn Basketball’s upcoming opponents. This week, Auburn finishes up its regular season hosting the South Carolina Gamecocks.
South Carolina
The Gamecocks have been brought down to earth a little following a hot start, holding a record of 18-11, with a 9-8 record in conference play. They are on something of a hot streak though, winning five of their last six.
Auburn has beaten South Carolina once this week, a blowout win with a final of 81-66. Wendell Green was the standout for Auburn on that day, posting 22 points, as well as five assists. Walker Kessler also posted a double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds and 12 points.
Players to Watch For: #5, guard Jermaine Cousinard, and #10, guard Erik Stevenson
Cousinard is the most dangerous player on the Gamecocks roster, averaging about 12 a game. He came off the bench against Auburn, but still managed to score 17 points in the prior contest. Stevenson is the next leading scorer for USC, scoring 11.4 points per game. He also leads them in rebounding, with 3.5 per game. Against Auburn, he had a tremendous game, scoring 25 points.
