Each week, I will look at a movie that is currently in theaters or available to stream and give some reasons why people should watch it. This isn’t necessarily a film critique, rather, an overview of what I think is enjoyable about the film, and why it’s worth seeing. This week, we’ll be looking at No Exit.
After a string of well-known movies, I’m going off the beaten path with this week’s movie Monday. No Exit is a recently released Hulu original film that has an interesting plot idea. The plot centers around a group stranded at a visitor center during a blizzard. Dull, right? Not exactly. One of the group realizes there’s a kidnapped child in the back of someone’s van at the visitor center, leading to a mystery of whose van it is, and why the child is kidnapped. This is where I stop talking about the plot or else I will start getting into major spoilers, but let’s just say a dramatic twist or two can be expected. I’m not going to say this is the greatest thing you’ve ever seen, it isn’t, but, this movie continues to emphasize that quality stuff is made by the major streaming platforms, with or without big budgets and big casts. While the characters here do make some poor decisions, it’s a pretty good storyline, and the key moments are intense. I would hold on calling this movie a mystery because the main mystery is revealed circa halfway through, but it’s a mix of mystery and drama with a small dose of horror. If you’re looking for a good idea that doesn’t try to be a big block buster, No Exit can provide a nice detour from the usual.
No Exit is available to be streamed on Hulu.
