Movie Monday (August 29): Bullet Train

Each week, I will look at a movie that is currently in theaters or available to stream and give some reasons why people should watch it. This isn’t necessarily a film critique, rather, an overview of what I think is enjoyable about the film, and why it’s worth seeing. This week we’ll be looking at Bullet Train, starring Brad Pitt.

Bullet Train may serve as the last movie to hit theaters and make around 100 million dollars for a couple of months as the box office grinds to a halt ahead of some big late year releases. The Brad Pitt led film is a entertaining ride. Plenty of action and kills to satisfy bloodthirst, but a mysterious connection and story lies beneath the kills. The presentation of the movie has some nods to its Japanese background, and of course, takes place on a bullet train leaving Tokyo. The action as stated above is plentiful, but there is also some dark humor and wit that coincides with some of the killing and action.

For me, Pitt is always a must watch for this reason, as his charming wit has been around for a long time. However, the supporting roles in this movie are arguably more important than Pitt’s, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as “Tangerine” and Brian Tyree Henry as “Lemon” are fun watches. The amount of characters in this movie grows by the car you enter, and I think it should be applauded for having around 10 or 11 characters that truly matter,
despite staying in virtually one setting for 90 percent of the movie. The action is again good, but this one needs to be watched for the scope of characters that all play a solid role in the action and comedy.

Bullet Train is speeding its’ way through theaters everywhere.
