Carlos Alcaraz is SportsCall’s Player of the Week, presented by Eric McDade State Farm!
Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz defeated 5th-seeded Casper Ruud in four sets to win the U.S. Open Championship on Sunday. It was Alcaraz’s first major championship. The 19-year-old survived multiple five-set matches throughout the tournament, and will now become the No. 1 ranked player in the world with the victory. Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest player ever to be ranked No. 1 in the Association of Tennis Professionals. Alcaraz is the first teenager to win any major title since Rafael Nadal in 2005.
