Sleepless in Seattle

The Washington Huskies are coached by Mike Hopkins, who’s entering his sixth season in Washington. He’s been very successful, leading the Huskies to multiple 20-win seasons, a Pac-12 title, and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Huskies seem poised to hit that mark again, as they’ve started the season 9-3. Other than a bad loss to California Baptist, the Huskies have looked pretty solid this year. They have an impressive overtime win over Saint Mary’s to boast as well. They have a very deep rotation as well, with 10 guys who average over 10 minutes a game, and one player who averages 9.5.

Like USC (and Auburn), UW is a big team that for whatever reason typically gets out-rebounded. Auburn was able to punish USC for that shortcoming, even if they couldn’t pull out a win. They’re a decent shooting team, hit 33% from deep and 45% from the field. They’re built mostly on defense, holding teams to an average of 64.6 points.

Players to Watch For:

Forward Keion Brooks Jr, #1- Brooks is the leader in minutes for Washington, averaging 33 per game. The 6’7″ senior transferred over from Kentucky after being a three year contributor and one year starter. Since he arrived in Seattle, he’s been the focal point of this team, averaging 17 points and 6.7 rebounds. Both lead the squad.

Guard PJ Fuller II, #4- Fuller was a starter at TCU before transferring to Washington in 2021. He’s currently leading the team in assists with 3.5 per game. He’s a solid scorer as well, and will be the main ball handler for the Huskies.
