For the seventh and final time, Auburn softball pitcher Maddie Penta is SportsCall’s Player of the Week!
The former SEC pitcher of the year came up big when Auburn needed it most in an alimentation game over the weekend at the Tallahassee regional, and gave the Tigers a win in the most important start of her career.
After Auburn won its first game in the loser’s bracket against Chattanooga, the Tigers called on Penta for the rematch with UCF. Penta was brilliant, pitching the full 12 innings, giving up only one run, and striking out a program-record 21 batters. For the game, Penta threw 224 pitches, with a grand total of 376 over three days.
