Auburn senior golfer JM Butler is SportsCall’s Player of the Week!
In the NCAA National Championship in Carlsbad, California, the Tigers faced off against Florida State. Freshman superstars Jackson Koivun and Brendan Valdes gave Auburn their first two points on the day, but Carson Bacha and Josiah Gilbert fell in close matches.
It came down to Butler, the anchor and only senior in the lineup for Auburn, who had a close match but never trailed against FSU’s Luke Clanton. At the 17th hole, Butler hit a clutch tee shot and approach shot to give himself an opportunity at a two-putt par. After Butler got close with the first putt, Clanton conceded the hole, which gave Auburn a 3-2 win, and the national championship.
The title is the first for Auburn Men’s golf, making the team the sixth at the school to secure a national title.
