Welcome to Movie Monday! Each week we will look at a movie either in theaters or available to stream by a major streamer. We will briefly review the movie, and tell you why it is enjoyable. This isn’t meant to be a detailed criticism, rather, a celebration of why a movie is entertaining or worth the watch. We will typically avoid spoilers, but if there are any, we will denote that clearly before it appears in the review. This week we’ll be looking at Game Night, starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams.
I thought we’d lighten the mood a bit now that spooky season is behind us, and what better way to do that than with a game night? Game Night is one of my favorite comedies in the last 5-10 years.
Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams successfully team up as a married couple that love to host game nights with friends. They compliment each other well and have some memorably funny scenes together such as the attempted removal a bullet that had already exited.
However, the cast as a whole do a good job of all contributing some humor, in particular, Jesse Plemons. After all, most of us were wondering how a three for one special would be profitable for Frito Lay.
His performance, along with some other supporting cast keep the opportunities for humor consistent throughout. To add to the humor, not that the story is incredibly important in comedies, but I thought the story was very enjoyable in Game Night.
A few unexpected twists at the end provide some flavor to the already funny film. Whether you’ve seen it or not, treat yourself now that the Halloween season has come and gone to a fun night with Game Night.
Game Night is currently available to stream on Prime Video.
