Each week, I will look at a movie that is currently in theaters or available to stream and give some reasons why people should watch it. This isn’t necessarily a film critique, rather, an overview of what I think is enjoyable about the film, and why it’s worth seeing. This week we’ll be looking at Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Shutter Island is a wonderful psychological film. With a dark setting and a twisting mystery, Shutter Island is deep, but not too deep to understand. If you like Leonardo DiCaprio, you’ll enjoy this role from him, and be rooting for his character throughout. This is not a horror movie per say, even though the title might lend one to thinking that, but the surprising conclusion of this film does have a tragic ending that is a sort of personal horror for the character involved. I continue to not give away spoilers so I won’t divulge more, but it’s certainly worth the mind bending 2 hour and 18 minute run time to find out. I find this to be one more of the more enjoyable mystery movies I’ve seen, and I think given the reviews, many agree.
