    • The next day, the Birmingham News published a picture that appeared to show Curtis Brown in bounds with the touchdown that would have given Alabama the win; in the days of no instant replay, however, it would not matter.

  • After lots of rain, wind, and an 80-yard touchdown pass from Grossman, the game was unbelievably tied 20-20 with 12 minutes to go in the contest. Karlos Dansby would intercept Grossman late allowing Auburn to set up a game-winning field goal from Damon Duvall

  • It wasn’t until Onterio McCalebb would rush around the left end and down the home sideline for 70 yards with five minutes to go that Auburn would take the lead for good. The Tigers of orange and blue would win 24-17 and move to 8-0

  • After an end of half Hail Mary from Newton to Darvin Adams, the Tigers led 28-14 at the break. From then on, it was all Newton and all Auburn. The Tigers would score 28 more points while holding the Gamecocks to three and secured their first SEC Championship since 2004
  • Newton’s performance earned him SEC Championship Offensive MVP and he would be named the winner of the Heisman Trophy just a week later. The Tigers, at 13-0, were #1 in the BCS rankings and secured their spot in the BCS National Championship game

#4. 2004 SEC Championship vs. Tennessee

  • The 11-0 Tigers headed to Atlanta after an Iron Bowl victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide. In Atlanta waiting for them was a rematch with the Tennessee Volunteers – this time to decide the SEC champion
  • After a 24 point win in Neyland Stadium months before, this rematch between the teams was closer. However, Auburn won for the second time by a score of 38-28 behind two touchdowns from QB Jason Campbell and Auburn’s dominant rushing duo of Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown
  • The Tigers became 12-0 and would eventually become 13-0 after defeating the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Sugar Bowl. Auburn, an undefeated SEC champion, would miss out on a chance to play for the national championship – a situation that many point to as a reason the College Football Playoff eventually came

#3. 2010 vs. Alabama

  • All that stood between the #1 ranked Auburn Tigers and a perfect 12-0 season in 2010 was a trip inside their rivals and the defending national champions, Alabama Crimson Tide’s home stadium. It was a nightmare start to the game as the Tide jumped out in front 24-0
  • Auburn would slowly make its way back into the game until star quarterback Cameron Newton found Phillip Lutzenkirchen for the go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter to make it 28-27, which would eventually be the final score as the Tigers completed a perfect regular season
  • The 28-27 win against the Crimson Tide inside Bryant-Denny Stadium sent Auburn to the SEC Championship with a 12-0 record and is the last time an Auburn football team came away with a victory over their rivals inside Tuscaloosa. Since the game, Auburn is 3-2 against Alabama at home and 0-5 on the road

#2. 2013 vs. Alabama

  • The most anticipated Iron Bowl of all-time delivered the rivalry and college football one of the best endings to a game ever. #1 Alabama came into the Plains 11-0 to visit the #4 Auburn Tigers who stood at 10-1. It was simple: win and represent the West in the SEC Championship
  • The game was even most of the way. Teams traded punches and Alabama struggled with their field goal kicking looking for easy points. Just a few minutes into the fourth quarter, AJ McCarron found Amari Cooper for a 99-yard touchdown that gave the Tide a 28-21 advantage
  • It wasn’t until the clock went under 30 seconds that Auburn would even the score when Nick Marshall found Sammie Coates wide open on a pop pass. Alabama had one more drive to potentially win the game. With a review, one second was put on the clock and HC Nick Saban elected to try a 57-yard field goal that would come up short and be fielded by Chris Davis for a walk-off 109-yard touchdown
