Prince was never a major fan of The Beatles, unlike many of his peers. He knew who they were, but according to band mates, he wasn’t obsessed with them.
Sir Paul McCartney, however, loved Prince’s music and persona. So much so, in fact, that he admitted that two of his songs were influenced by Prince’s style.
‘Hunt You Down’ and ‘If You Wanna,’ are two McCartney songs that have a particularly familiar sound for Prince fans. When asked about the influence of Prince on the two songs, McCartney said “I can’t think of other songs he has inspired, but those two definitely. I was always a big fan. I went to see him in concert a few times and wrote to him saying how much I enjoyed his guitar playing particularly. I met him a few times. The last time was a couple of New Year’s ago, when he played a New Year’s gig. I’ve always been a big fan.”
