PGA championship winner Justin Thomas is SportsCall’s Player of the Week!
The 29-year-old defied odds during the third round on Sunday, entering the day trailing the leader by 7 strokes. A tournament-best three-under and a few bogeys from the top of the pack allowed Thomas to force a sudden death playoff against Will Zalatoris, which Thomas won on the third hole.
“When you’re that far behind in a major, you can’t do it all yourself — you need some help,” Thomas said. “I understood that it was going be tough for those guys just as it was for me to try to win the tournament. I executed when I needed to and it was just enough.”
It is Thomas’ first Major victory in five years.
