Movie Monday (October 3): Goodfellas

goodfellas

Each week, I will look at a movie that is currently in theaters or available to stream and give some reasons why people should watch it. This isn’t necessarily a film critique, rather, an overview of what I think is enjoyable about the film, and why it’s worth seeing. This week, we’ll look back at Goodfellas, starring Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, and Joe Pesci.

Goodfellas is a classic that many have seen and won’t take too much convincing to watch but I digress. This is another Scorsese masterpiece, combining biography and crime with Hollywood. De Niro, Liotta, and Pesci are the perfect leads for the gangster masterpiece this is. The movie perfectly encapsulates in my eyes, what it would be like to be in the mob. There are fierce loyalties, fierce rivalries, luxury, and crime, lots of crime. The nearly two and a half hour runtime is justified in the brining of Henry Hill into the mob (played by Liotta) and the eventual chaos that comes with becoming heavily involved. If you’re not at all interested in the mob or crimes movies there probably isn’t a path to you wanting to watch this movie. But, this is the 17th highest rated movie of all time on IMDB, so if you want to give one a shot, Goodfellas is as well done as it gets.

Goodfellas is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
