How To Watch: Netflix

“Moneyball” has been one of my favorite movies for a long time. This movie shows the details of how the style of Major League Baseball statistics overwhelmed everyone in the game. The stats being used to decide if a player was good or not were stolen bases, runs batted in, and batting average. These stats were being considered outdated by the smaller market teams but the players who dominated these stats usually received a higher salary.

The Oakland A’s, a very small market baseball organization, started seeking players who were better when it came to on-base percentage and slugging percentage. These players were “undervalued” in the market at the time.

This movie took a ton of “undervalued” players in a small market and went on a crazy underdog type run and changed the perspective of what stats matter in baseball forever. The general manager, Billy Beane, and assistant general manager, Paul DePodesta, went against a ton of scrutiny which makes the outcome of this movie even better in my opinion.

I am a huge underdog guy, and I love when players rally with each other to do something special. I recommend this movie to anyone who loves good strategy and definitely and underdog story.
