Though the buzz around Auburn has been majority pleasant from the media, the over arching thought is Auburn is no more than a team fighting for a bowl. Something that the people of the Auburn faithful are tired of hearing.
Main focus, of course, was the transfer of five star quarterback, Jackson Arnold, from Oklahoma. Arnold didn’t make much of impression on the field in Norman, but his former coach, Brent Venables, kept him in high regard.
“I know this, without reservation, he’s going to play this game a long time…at a really high level,” Venables said when asked about Arnold.
Still many questions around this offense. The turnovers being a major issue in last season’s production. It’s up to Arnold to take care of the football and utilize the weapons around him. Can he be the quarterback that is going to right the ship for not only the Tigers but Hugh Freeze?
At the end of the day, the honest truth is the Tigers are not going to be a strong contender for the national title this year, but do have pieces on this team that could boost this program to the doorstep of a playoff spot in the years to come.
It’s reasonable to expect a 7 win season or better out of the Tigers. They just need to make sure they add some notable wins to their résumé and not allow winnable games to slip away.
Auburn opens the season on the road against Baylor August 29th at 7 PM CST and will be broadcasted on the FOX network.
