Welcome to Movie Monday! Each week we will look at a movie either in theaters or available to stream by a major streamer. We will briefly review the movie, and tell you why it is enjoyable. This isn’t meant to be a detailed criticism, rather, a celebration of why a movie is entertaining or worth the watch. We will typically avoid spoilers, but if there are any, we will denote that clearly before it appears in the review. This week, we’ll be looking at The Naked Gun (2025).

Major comedies hitting the movie theaters have been few and far between in recent years, but one of the best attempts in recent memory was made late this summer with The Naked Gun (2025).

A formula used in the 80s when Leslie Nielsen went from being in serious movies to a comedic actor, Liam Neeson turns his “particular set of skills” into a particular set of comedy.

Neeson’s deadpans and deliveries work perfectly for what The Naked Gun wants to produce. The humor is true to what the prior movies portray and if you enjoyed those, you’ll have a laugh and a coffee watching this one.

Fun tropes and dry humor are consistent and largely successful, making it feel like a Naked Gun movie. The movie is even true to its predecessors in run time, lasting a quick hour and 25 minutes, which is exactly how long the original was, and unlike most movies of this time.

No, I don’t think this is as good as the original, but I do think it’s somewhere in the ballpark. Whether it’s seated near home plate or in the outfield is up to your enjoyment of Neeson’s deliveries, which I find to be on the mark.
