Carson Hocevar became a NASCAR Cup Series winner for the first time in his career, surviving a chaotic afternoon to capture the Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on April 26.
Driving the No. 77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, the 23-year-old Michigan native held off Chris Buescher by just 0.114 seconds in a dramatic finish. Hocevar led 19 laps and kept his car out front through several late restarts to secure an emotional breakthrough victory.

The race featured the trademark intensity of Talladega, with drivers racing inches apart in large packs for much of the 188-lap event. A massive multi-car crash on Lap 115 eliminated many contenders and reshaped the field, but Hocevar and his team positioned themselves near the front when it mattered most.
Buescher finished second in the No. 17 Ford, while Alex Bowman came home third. Chase Elliott placed fourth, and Zane Smith rounded out the top five.
The win marked the first Cup Series triumph for Hocevar and a landmark moment for Spire Motorsports, which has continued to grow into a competitive organization. Hocevar celebrated enthusiastically with fans after climbing from his car, soaking in the biggest moment of his young racing career.
In one of the wildest races of the 2026 season, Talladega delivered another unforgettable finish and introduced NASCAR’s newest Cup Series winner.
