A very difficult modification had to be made to Phil Collen’s guitar, but at the advice of a rock legend.
Before the forming of the band ‘Def Leppard’ Collen had an encounter with a touring Eddie Van Halen. In that meeting, Van Halen advised Collen to modify his guitar for a better sound.
Collen wasn’t excited about the work that would have to go into the modification, but took Van Halen at his word. In the end, that modification ended up being a part of the band’s classic sound.
