1997– R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry announced that he was leaving the group after 17 years to
become a farmer.

1978– Queen played the first night of their 79-date “Jazz” tour at the Dallas Convention Center
in Dallas, Texas.

1956– Elvis Presley made his second appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, where the hosts
presented him with a gold record for song “Love Me Tender”.
