2013 – Rihanna joined The Beatles and Elvis Presley as just the third ever act to top the UK singles chart seven times in seven years. The singer charted this time for her feature on Eminem’s track “The Monster”.

1989 – Elton John recorded his 50th UK chart hit when the single “Sacrifice” entered the charts. He was the third to achieve this feat, behind only Cliff Richard and Elvis Presley.

1984 – Prince played his first of seven nights at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan to kick off his 87-date North American Purple Rain tour. This marked the live debut of his new band, The Revolution.
